Cheat Sheet: Cut vs. Cut Edge

April 8, 2013 by Kay

Screen Shot 2013-03-14 at 6.19.11 PM

I have all kinds of powerful software to work in, but I can’t help exploring Silhouette Studio to try and find out why it behaves as it does. I began researching yet another double line problem and discovered some interesting facts about how SS operates. I figured out how to keep the double lines at bay, which also led me to a way to offset text and keep it editable, and a way to add a quick bleed zone to objects. You know I’m not one to keep the minutiae to myself 🙂 Click here for a printable PDF.

I am making company shirits that has a logo on it but I cant get the inside of the image to cut out. its a hotwater heater that is suppose to have a face , but its only cutting the out line if it out and not the face part. I was already suppose to have the shirits finished. need help please if someone knows how.

When you go to the Send panel you will see a cut preview on the left hand size. Try setting everything to Cut and if that doesn’t work, ungroup and set pieces individually to cut. It also possible that you need to trace the face before you will be able to cut it.

Kay, this is such a nice visual. It will serve SS users well. I’ve found myself using a color behind a pattern or color fill to get that bleed which is so nice. I love the way you explore, discover, and then, so kindly share. You’re such a lovely spirit. Thank you. Hugs, Debbie

Great. Now tell me how to get rid of a double line in MTC.

The double lines in MTC are probably from tracing line art. You will need to use the break command then delete one of the lines. The first 3 videos in my tracing without tears series might help you even though they aren’t for MTC.
