New free dingbat font for die cutters

May 24, 2009 by Kay

I am proud to introduce 09 KutUps, a shapes font made especially for SCAL, MTC, Silhouette Studio and other cutting software that can cut truetype fonts. From the ground up this font was designed with diecutting in mind. Every shape has been optimized for cutting and even the font name and configuration have been chosen to make it easy to use with diecutting software.

I have been the recipient of much generosity recently. For example, in 2008 I spent a month’s worth of nights in the Ronald McDonald House near where my son was hospitalized. If you enjoy using this font, I hope you will be generous the next time this fine organization asks for your support. Download the font here. View/download the character map here. 09KutUps is free for personal and commercial use, but may not be sold or shared without my permission. Please also do me the courtesy of directing others to this blog post rather than to the box.com link. And of course, I would love to hear your comments.

7/24/09 Update: This font has become very popular, and many of you have told me that you have honored my request that you make a donation to Ronald McDonald House Charities in return. Thank you so very much. My son had to be admitted to a hospital in another distant town for the last 2 weeks. Once again the Ronald McDonald House there provided support for our family.

5/11/13 Update: This font has been downloaded tens of thousands of times and I am overwhelmed by your response to it and your willingness to honor my request. I have eliminated the mediafire link that had gotten too aggressive and switched over completely to box.net which should be a simpler download. My son has been off treatment for 3 years and  has graduated from college and gotten married. I will forever be grateful to the Ronald McDonald House for being there is our darkest days. Thank you for your continued support!

I am blown away with this set! This is like an everyday ‘go-to’ set and every element is something that I will be able to use!!! I don’t recall anyone ever giving me something that I can put to good use every day! Thank you so very much for your time, artistic talents, and most of all for giving it so freely from your heart.

I finally used this font and it is soooo coooool. I am working on my halloween cards and needed a scalloped circle. I went online to figure out how to use it in my SCAL program (yes, I have been putting off using this program for a very long time) I typed in the letter b and the scallop circle was perfect. I set it to 4.25 inches and it cut perfectly. I think you should change your name from clever someday to “clever all the time” LOL Have a good one.

Thank you so much for this! It is AWESOME!

This is so cool–If I’d seen this as a Cricut cart, I’d have been in line to purchase it:-)

I will be making a $20 donation to the Ronald McDonald house. I hope your son is recovered and you will have no futher need of it.

LOVE this font! Thank you for sharing. This totally saved my day today with a Christmas project I have been working on. Saved me from cutting out a bunch of round scalloped circles.

We LOVE the RM House and have made quilts for them. Such a great organization.

I have tried to download 09kutups. Not sure what I’m doing wrong. I have SCAL 2.038. I’m new at this, so I have no idea what I need to do so that I can use these wonderful shapes with my cricut. PLEASE HELP!

      Tif,
You need to install the font in your computer system, then it will show up in SCAL automatically. If you don’t know how to install a font, check the help files on your computer as it is different for every operating system.

Try the blue box.net widget in the sidebar. It’s real easy to get it from there.

Thank you so much for sharing your creation. Ronald Mcdonald House is my favorite charity. I wish more people were aware of how much help they provide to the families of sick children.
I am heading over and make a contribution after I post this

Thank you so so much for this font! It has been so useful in creating signs and little details that have added so much to my parties!
I am thinking about getting started in selling some of my printables (i.e. labels, invitations, banners, etc). Would I be able to get permission to use your shapes in my designs?
Thanks so much for all your creativity! It makes things so much easier for those of us who have a vision and know nothing about computer programming…

Thank you for your generosity! I do hope that your son is greatly improved by his medical care. When I was an education coordinator for a JoAnn store I was the store’s liason with the Ronald McDonald House and I know what a great help they are for families. As an R.N., I understand the tremendous need. I’d be pleased to donate.
