New free dingbat font for die cutters

May 24, 2009 by Kay

I am proud to introduce 09 KutUps, a shapes font made especially for SCAL, MTC, Silhouette Studio and other cutting software that can cut truetype fonts. From the ground up this font was designed with diecutting in mind. Every shape has been optimized for cutting and even the font name and configuration have been chosen to make it easy to use with diecutting software.

I have been the recipient of much generosity recently. For example, in 2008 I spent a month’s worth of nights in the Ronald McDonald House near where my son was hospitalized. If you enjoy using this font, I hope you will be generous the next time this fine organization asks for your support. Download the font here. View/download the character map here. 09KutUps is free for personal and commercial use, but may not be sold or shared without my permission. Please also do me the courtesy of directing others to this blog post rather than to the box.com link. And of course, I would love to hear your comments.

7/24/09 Update: This font has become very popular, and many of you have told me that you have honored my request that you make a donation to Ronald McDonald House Charities in return. Thank you so very much. My son had to be admitted to a hospital in another distant town for the last 2 weeks. Once again the Ronald McDonald House there provided support for our family.

5/11/13 Update: This font has been downloaded tens of thousands of times and I am overwhelmed by your response to it and your willingness to honor my request. I have eliminated the mediafire link that had gotten too aggressive and switched over completely to box.net which should be a simpler download. My son has been off treatment for 3 years and  has graduated from college and gotten married. I will forever be grateful to the Ronald McDonald House for being there is our darkest days. Thank you for your continued support!

I live in israel, so I cannot donate for the institution thas you asked but I donated 50$ to the The Israeli Foundation for Handicapped Children -which assists thousands of physically impaired children and adults suffering from neuromuscular disorders such as infantile paralysis, cerebral palsy, and muscular dystrophy

This is an amazing font! I’ve made about 5 donations this year to RMH, but will make another one in your name. They are my favorite charity. As a PICU doctor, I can’t even tell you how amazing they have been to my patients’ families. The support they provide just can’t be measured.

Thank you for your generosity! I’m really enjoying your blog and your clever ideas! I, too, have benefitted from the amazing charity of the Ronald McDonald House. My daughter was born at 24 weeks and spent nearly 10 months in the NICU. We lived at the Ronald McDonald House for over 100 days. We were well taken care of during this extremely difficult time in our lives. We donate on a regular basis. I am new to your blog, but I hope to hear good things about your son! Thanks again for the font, as well as the shout out about RMH!

This font would have been very useful for my art project, but I got an error when I opened the downloaded file. The error says: “The requested file …9KUTUPS.TTF is not a valid font file.” Am I missing something?

Kay Ann, please re-download and try again. This font has been downloaded thousands of times and this is the first report of this so I’m thinking it was a random hiccup.

Hmmm, Dianne, haven’t had any other reports of this. Make sure you look at the very top or very bottom of your font list. The font’s name starts with the numerals 09.

[…] The mat I made for the stamped oval uses the first easy technique. To do this simply measure the hight and width of the stamped image and type those measurements into the properties box of scal. Then select appearance and chose a shadow of .5 to 1 and that will leave a nice border to your stamped art and smooth the edges of the design. I used an oval scallop from the free font 09 Kutups by Clever Someday. […]
