I have been trying to figure out how to reverse the path for the circle text for a long time!!! Thank you so much for the tutorial!

I have a problem with SCAL when trying to copy and paste “text on a path”. I cut vinyl for wedding wine glasses. I create the word “Bridesmaid” for instance, curved and welded. Looks great and cuts perfectly, but I want to cut 10 of these at a time, No matter whether I “copy and paste” or save it and reopen it, the capital “B” ALWAYS ends up on the wrong angle. When creating the word, I do have to rotate the “B” -20 or – 30 to look correct, but SCAL never saves this rotation, it just returns the “B” to it’s initial rotation, which overlaps the “r” and the “i”. Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated. SCAL is a wonderful program that I absolutely love.

Hi Lynnette, Sounds like you’ve found a bug, but there’s a simple workaround. After you get the first “Bridesmaid” like you want it. Go under the Text menu and select Convert to path. Then it should copy and paste without any issues.

Thank you Kay. I tried the “Convert to Outlines” under Text Menu (there is no convert to Path in my Version 2.34). I highlighted the text first and selected it. I also “selected” the circle and text and tried it that way. Both ways it took all the letters and placed them on the mat, removing the path (circle), but my tracking and welding was gone. I’m using Alex font, which is a script that welds nicely together, and they became standalone letters with gaps in between. This definitely seems like a solution that should work, as it does lock the letters and I can cut and paste them, but it doesn’t lock them the way I had them. I then can’t go back in and move them. It is so frustrating, as I cut dozens of vinyl decals every day, and this has to be redone every time I need to cut this particular design. Thanks in advance for any other ideas you might have.

Kay, thank you so much for answering this. I just found this post again! Going to try your solution right now…. finger’s crossed.

Hurray!!!! I figured it out. After converting them all to Outlines/Path, I then selected each individual letter, moved them back together and rotated where necessary; then selected all and welded — and held my breath. It worked! I could copy and paste each “Bridesmaid” word to my heart’s content. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You’ve just saved me hours of future work.

Hi Kay, thx for the video. It helped me out so much in the past. Now I’m having a problem with the Type on Path. Every time after I create my design and do the Convert to outline my design will disappear. I even tried saving the design before it disappear and when I open the file back up, the design disappear again. I don’t know what I can be doing wrong. I’m at a lost. My designs only disappear only when I use the Type on Path. Is there any advice you can give me to solve this problem? Thx!!!

How do i ensure that a word is in the middle of an “arch”?

You just have to eyeball it.

How do I get the circle to appear without the middle? I can not get it to ungroup?

Hi Stacey, Click the Palette icon on the right and then in under Fill, pull down to none. But this process works fine with a filled circle, too. To unlink the circle from the letters when you are done, use Text>Convert Text to Outlines or Break Apart, as shown in the video.
