Combining layers with the line styles feature in SCAL2 gives you lots of options to work with whether using gel pens or a scoring tool of some kind. Details in the video tutorial below.
Great Video Kay,
Many thanks for all I learn from your vids. I always visit to see what I can learn. Thanks again,

I never thought of using my pen for the stitch marks. Thanks.

Very nicely done!! I want to know, is your SCAL 2 the MAC or PC version? How did you get your buttons nice and big and labeled like that!!???
Kaysays
Mac version. That’s how the buttons are, there’s no preference to change or anything.

Wow, thank you for this helpful tutorial! When I draw stitch marks on my cuts, it’s so uneven. This technique will really enhance the look of my projects! Your tutorial was so clear and easy to follow. (I followed along on my SCAL.) Can’t wait to try it out for real!
Thanks again – Evelyn

Thank you, I watch videos all the time and the first time i have seen one done so clear and understandable. I seen simpler things like loading pens and so on but people over talk and you can get lost. Thank you for a great video

I’ve just recently got SCAL. Oh, wow! Where did you learn all this? Someone needs to write SCAL for Dummies. Can you recommend beginning videos? I also have a MAC. I’ll make a note of this video so if I ever learn how to use pens, I’ll refer to your video. Where do you buy the pens, this is the first I’ve heard of them.

Bev,
Welcome to the fascinating world of SCAL. Take a deep breath and start slowly with a few simple projects.
Here are 3 places for good SCAL videos

Thank you for this great tutorial. I have had
SCAL 2 for several months and was not aware of being able to change any shape into a dotted line or that you could change the size of the shadow with the numbers beside the style. I am very excited to have this new information.

I’m so glad I discovered your website! I have been trying to figure out how to cut out an image on the Cricut and make score lines that don’t actually cut the paper. I have the Chomas embossing tip which I thought about using but it requires the latex mat so that wouldn’t work as far as the cutting part is concerned. You mention using the other side of the Cricut cutting blade to create the score line. I haven’t tried it yet but does it really create a good score line?
Kaysays
Lynn, Unfortunately nothing will score card stock in a Cricut very well without a special mat.
Lynn Cooksays
Darn! Oh, well, I guess I’ll continue scoring by hand. Keep up the great work on your tutorials!

What an awesome tutorial. I’ve had my scal for over a year and had no clue it would do this. Thank you so much. I hope you do more tutorials as you are a wonderful teacher.
Off to sub to your you tube channel so I don’t miss anything.
Thanks again!

hi Kay,
I have a couple of questions:
1. how you you “capture” the screen so you can make a video and voice it over at the same time, is there a program you use for that?
2. If I create a file in SCAL2 and export it as an SVG will it retain my layers and line styles?
Thanks,
Lindsay
Kaysays
Hi Lindsay!
1. I use a commercial program called Screenflow for “deluxe” videos with subtitles and callouts. Screenflow even lets you have a parallel video feed, too, like I use here http://cleversomeday.wordpress.com/2012/07/13/ccrpnc/
For short videos (under 5 minutes) with no editing or bells and whistles I use screenr.com (free).
2. SCAL2 will preserve layers but not line styles in an exported SVG. Inkscape can do this if you use the Convert to Dashes extension (open path “stitches”) or Stroke to Path (closed path “stitches”).

I know you posted this years ago, but I just wanted to say thank you. I’ve been using SCAL2 for ages and ages, and considered myself fairly knowledgeable, but never knew how to do this! I just came across a project I wanted to make, and needed to add score lines to it. Your video helped me SOOO much! It’s never too late to learn new things!
