What we know is that without a new (3.3.622 or higher)/patched version(2.9.67), after June 22, you will not be able to:
1) Shop through Silhouette Studio
2) Download purchases
3) Activate a new upgrade (to DE or BE)
4) Reactivate an existing upgrade if necessary
5) Restore your library using V3’s File>Library>Import library (this is not confirmed but it does require server interaction)
If you do not update, your existing upgrades and store purchases will remain in place.
Everything else in Silhouette Studio should remain unchanged and run fine (perhaps better and faster without internet interference).
-There was/is already posted a version 3.3.638 for Win that works fully going forward. This is the
second third iteration, as version 3.3.622 and version 3.3.632 failed to open for many Windows users.
The latest version for Mac that works going forward is incorrectly labeled 3.3.638 but will install as 3.3.631 (you will see this after install) so autoupdate incorrectly reports a newer version available, when there is not. The current Mac download is correctly labeled but is no different from 3.3.631. An identical to 3.3.631, but now labeled 3.3.638, is available for Mac.
– There are many people on the Windows side who can not get 3.3.632 to open and SA is working that. The problem seems to be related to graphics card drivers. Update: 3.3.638 seems to have solved the opening problem, there are other issues being worked, and limited information as this is brand new.
-3.3.631/2/8 have not corrected existing issues with sluggishness, preference errors, diagonal draw bug, Mac resource hogging, etc. Please keep pressing SA for fixes!
-3.3.632/8 will not work with Win XP
-SA has promised a patch version of V2, to be called the Heritage version, for those who would like to remain with version 2. We plan to hold them to this promise. Update: the patched version of 2.9.45, now version 2.9.67 is available for download here.
–Default cut settings for various materials has changed as of 3.3.632. A headsup to those who are not diligent about writing down your own preferred settings (and you know who you are).
-back up your library and license file immediately if you have not already. This way you can restore your own store files and DE/BE license if you need to, independent of SA servers. The location of these files can be found here.
–if you do not wish to update your software, you don’t have to. Please let email@example.com know that you will not be shopping at the store until your preferred version is supported. (If you have a subscription, respectfully request a fee suspension until your preferred version is supported.) Note: You will still be able to support many of your favorite designers through their web sites, Etsy stores, etc. and I hope that you will do so.
-if you do not mind updating, try 3.3.638 and if it works you are good to go. If not, roll back and sit tight for SA to fix things. Windows users may want to make sure their graphics card drivers are up to date first. Really, there is no rush and you can wait and see if things stabiiize if you like.
-for Mac users it is fairly simple to install more than one version of Silhouette Studio so this is a good alternative. Win users who are computer savvy may want to consider this option as well.
-don’t forget you have plenty of options, including Sure Cuts A Lot and Make the Cut. Do not be pressured to make a change you do not want to make.

The 3.3.638 upgrade does work with Windows XP SP3. I have just upgraded both my laptop and my desktop with the Silhouette Studio 3.3.638 version, both are running Windows XP SP3. I tried it on my laptop first just in case and as it ran fine on that I then upgraded my desktop. I can now download from the design store which I have not been able to for a few weeks. All the designs I had in my library have remained in place during the upgrade as well as my Designer Edition Key and everything seems to work fine.
Good data point, thanks for that info, Mike. I know not everyone has been so lucky but this tells me it is worth a try.

If you had the ruler before, then you had Designer Edition and just need to re-enter your key code and/or turn on rulers under the grid panel. Otherwise visit the Silhouette Plus Forum for ruler templates you can add to the basic edition.
I am trying to download the new version on a friends laptop but keep getting silhouette-studio v3.3.639.exe is not a valid Win32 application Can you help with this problem?

First time I bought the designer edition for $49 it took me weeks and the help of their support to get it to run properly. I had to uninstall it and reinstall it several times and had to explain the problem to their support over and over again. Now I updated to the latest version and I am back to the original problem. Everything is reset back to the free version, the licencekey-window flashes and sometimes it does not even appear.
This program is highly buggy, I do not recommend it and will buy a brother instead. Really, really frustrating!!

I am trying to save to an svg file from my heritage version and it won’t do it. Can you refer me to the steps, perhaps I am missing something?
Only Windows versions 1.9 and 2.0 DE can save as SVG and even then, it will not be an option in the pulldown, you simply add the svg suffix in the name dialog box when saving the file.

I’m running version 1.9 for the SVG saving capabilities. I have not done the update in fear of it updating the software. Now I cannot access the store. How do I do the update and keep the older version ?
I am primarily Mac so not an expert on this. There are several good tutorials. One in the MTC_Tuts Yahoo group and another in the Silhouette Plus Forum. Free membership required in both cases but well worth it.
Oh rats… the LATEST VERSION (3.4.486) is out already.
I updated in just as they started the new beta store. Bought new images and now my machine cuts cardstock on 7 blade where is use to cut on 3 and it does not want to cut delicate images. It makes double cut lines.

Agree 200%! I spend HOURS to get my head around this ‘software’. It is buggy, the developers know nothing about Macs and the errors keep turning up. After 1,5 years of countless hassles with their ‘support’ I gave up and sold my silhouette!

I bought some files from the Silhouette Store for a last minute project my mother needed and then the program would not download my pending orders… I ended up painting the images she wanted instead… 🙁 I know she loves it but my back is killing me now… Anyway, I ended up downloading the V3 and I get an error message while it’s loading and the program never opened grrrr…. I finally read through your post, downloaded the patched version of 2.9.45, now version 2.9.67 and now I have my recent purchased downloads. Thank you for all of your information. 🙂 I’ll have some cuts ready to go for my mom the next time she needs them. LOL

cannot upgrade to DE version… If I go to “Upgrade Silhoutte Studio…” just nothing happens! I uninstalled the free version several times, tried also with different versions… unsucessfully 🙁 It is just so anoying…

Hi CS. Unfortunately I know that issue (and many more!). Silhouette Studio is one of the crapiest pieces of software I ever had to work with. You’ll need to contact their incompetent support, after much back and forth they will suggest you to uninstalling and deleting specific system files the software saved (don’t know your system so cannot help, I hope you use PC not Mac because they know even less about Macs!) and then reinstall it from scratch. After a few more issues of such kind you will realize that the software sucks big time, sell your silhouette to some other poor sucker and move on to a brother or whatever else you feel like.
One advantage that Silhouette has over competitors is that you are not limited to their software, as I point out in this post. My advice would be to try 3rd party software before you give up on the Silhouette. And if you are considering a switch, test the competitors software first. Unfortunately, all of the OEM offerings in this sector are sadly lacking.

I’ve had my silhouette for over 3 years, working fine, never had an update issue. All of a sudden earlier this week I booted up and my program would not open, it just kept loading 14000+ files that I knew I did not have. The only thing I had done recently was purchase a few images from the store. I have a mac and have checked all my fonts and cleared any that had any issues. I’ve installed, reinstalled, installed previous versions and nothing….anyone have any ideas? my work schedule does not allow me to actually contact the support via phone while they are open, I will try emailing as well but just wondered if anyone else has had this issue. Thanks!
II am also having trouble. I written to support and they direct me to make changes to my computer. Nothing has worked.. The new download 360.57 will not work. Have to go back to old download..
I am 73 years old and had computer geeks help me and still cannot download new version. I have Silhouette Portrait. Bought the Curio and having trouble downloading that program . Will call today 1221/15 to another support person. Wish me luck 1
My son had to try a number of times before he could get a good copy. It seems that not all the files are downloading.
I’ve just bought a Silhouette portrait. I’ve installed it, but it says I need another version to access the shop. I’ve downloaded it, but it just stalls. I’ve bought patterns from the shop I can’t download at all.

can some maybe help want to load my designs which i saved on external drive on new laptop windows 8.1 but get as far as the resources, but do not know from there, in Windows 7 there was a aspexsoftware, folder which is not in Windows 8.1 have asked for hidden folders still no joy please help
