If you’ve only been using “text to path” in Silhouette Studio to curve words into a circle, then you have barely scratched the surface of what this fun feature can do. Here’s a video that will start with the basics and move on to the techniques that will make you a power user.

And be sure to grab Border Bits, the font I demo in the video, here.

what a fantastic video…. I just got my Silhouette and had no idea that text to path was even an option. By the way, I really appreciate the fine detail kerning you showed. So many typefaces out there seem to ignore kerning altogether and at large sizes certain letter combinations really look funny. I guess it is my training as a calligrapher that makes me a type geek, but I really appreciate knowing how to work around all the weird letter spacing out there. thank you!!

I also received a Silhouette for Christmas and stumbling upon your blog has been so helpful. I’m searching EVERYWHERE for instructions on how to bend or curve an image like a banner…can you help?? I would like curve a purchased image of baseball stitching and can’t figure it out. Is there a way to simply do this? The only thing close is to use the point editing and there are about 1000 points to deal with…help if you can ๐Ÿ˜‰

Silhouette Studio can not curve an image. You will need Inkscape, Adobe Illustrator or similar for that, and its not simple even then. Several people have used the chevron arrows in my Border Bits font to simulate baseball stitching and curve it as explained in this video.
