Tracing Without Tears … a new video series

January 23, 2013 by Kay

I’m very excited to be releasing Part 1 of my series of videos about tracing in Silhouette Studio. It’s a new approach I hope will help ease some frustration. In Part 1 I cover why and when you need to trace, what are the best kinds of images to trace, how to do a basic trace, and how to avoid the “double line” problem. Please help me get the word out to any Silhouette newbies you know.

Playlist for all videos in the series is here

Thank You. I do have MTC and Silhouette Cameo with the DE. I will watch all your videos on the Silhouette to learn the program because I am not familar with this program. I would also like to know how to bring in a font and background papers into the program.

Thanks so much. Can’t wait until the next video. I like the semi-technical info because it helps in my understanding. Tracing has perhaps been the most perplexing to me.

    Hi Kay

I’ve been a subscriber for a while – first came to you looking for tutorials on inkscape – It never really took off for me – however, as a cameo owner, I’m really grateful for the stuff you do on the software… I’ve shared with the facebook group I’m in – Silhouette Cameo Papercrafts… a great group all about using the cameo in cardmaking and papercrafting – no vinyl in this group though…

Thank you for what you do – it’s very much appreciated that you take your own personal time out to do this for other users of the Cameo – probably the most popular electronic die cutting machine on the planet right now!

I feel so lucky to own one .

    Hi Kay

I’ve now just watched the video and understand so much more than I already did. In the very early versions of Silhouette Studio (I’m talking when they were with Quikutz), I bought the original quikutz silhouette electronic cutter (2008)- the software used to enable you to take your image into another window and make it darker so that you could trace it better – but that feature disappeared as the software has been updated over time – to where we are now. While it is so much more user friendly now, I have really struggled with the double line issue… thanks to you, I now know what to do, and why its happening.

I also remember why I would have downloaded Inkscape in order to make the images darker to be able to trace them – or even turn them into a differnt file type.

thank you again Kay – can’t wait to see what the next set of videos bring.

    Kay,

I just wanted to take a second and thank you for sharing your knowledge! All of your tutorials are great. You break things down so well and make them so easy to understand. I have followed you for quite a while and I rarely comment on blogs, but I feel like it is the least I can do to let you know that you are appreciated!! Have a blessed day.

This is exactly the level of detail I need! Not only what to do but WHY. I use adobe Illustrator all the time so the Silhouette Studio tracing function has baffled me until you explained the different criteria it is using. I look forward to the future videos in this series!!
