Part 6 … Tracing Without Tears

March 29, 2013 by Kay

For those of you who have been clamoring for a tutorial on tracing photos, I’m happy to announce the release of Tracing without Tears Part 6. I’ve learned so much along the way, and have become impressed at how much you really can do with just the limited capabilities in Silhouette Studio. I thought this would be the end of the series, but I’ve got a few extra tips and tricks that didn’t fit in the other videos so I guess there will be at least one more after this. Thanks again for all your kind comments and encouragement.

And in case you missed Part 1 (intro), you can find it here,Part 2 (threshold) is here, Part 3 (line art) is here , Part 4 (print and cut) is here, and Part 5 (filter tech) is here.

And there’s a playlist here.

It took me a second to unlock it after I posted this. Please try again.

I really can’t thank you enough for the wonderful SIlhouett Cameo information you put out in your videos! You are totally AWESOME! Your title certainly fits your video topics! (WITHOUT Tears) LOL 🙂

Another wonderful, concise, clear, and informative video. Your Tracing Without Tears series is the best information out there. Thank you Kay for taking the time, work, and efforts to make all of these so Silhouette users can enjoy their cutting machines even more. It’s just before Easter and everyone who watches this will get the “Golden Egg” . Hugs, Debbie

This may be a difficult question to answer…but I’ve seen how the cricut imagine cuts a background image and then will cut pieces of the image to add dimension…for example, it might cut a doll, and then cut out just the dress, and just the shoes as a way to add dimension. Is that possible with the silhouette software? To only select portions of an image to trace, print, and cut? I’ve tried, but since you’re more tech saavy, I thought maybe you’ve already figured it out! Thanks for the tutorials, they really help tech idiots like me!!

This is not difficult, the trace is the same, then you turn the cut lines on and off selectively. Watch the whole series if you haven’t already and it should become clear.

Thankyou so much for the videos! They are sooo helpful for a newbie like me :). I used them to try to cut out the free circus tent box on this web page http://papermatrix.wordpress.com/2010/12/16/circus-tent-box/ but sadly it cut out all the individual lines on the tent roof and sides and not the fold bits. Still, on the bright side I now have lots of pretty colourful shapes! Any thoughts about what I did wrong?

Hi Barbra, if you watch part 4 of the video series you will learn how to trace the outer edges for print and cut. The earlier videos will help you learn to adjust the settings to pick up those fold lines.
