Cool text tricks for your Valentines Day projects

There are some great online tools to take your custom text and “heart-ify” it. For starters, the following 3 sites make word clouds in the shape of a heart:

Festisite flows text into a spiral heart

Scrapcoloring lets you type in short text and then fill it with a heart pattern you can also customize. You can also generate high resolution background paper in various heart patterns.

Says-It generates circular text and a heart border.

And the software you already may have also has some cool text tricks for you to try. If you want to flow paragraph text into a heart shape, for instance, it is quick and easy to do in Inkscape. My one minute video is here. (Instructions for doing this in MSWord, PowerPoint, etc. are here.

You can also flow text around the outline of a heart using Text>Put Text on Path in Inkscape or in SureCutsALot with the steps shown in this text on path video. Studio with the steps shown in this video. Make the Cut also has this capability.

  10. Hi~ I saw your video on Youtube on this topic and I was having a little trouble with it. I made my text and shape, converted the shape to a path and then did it as you said but nothing happened. I’m certain I did something wrong, but I tried to follow the steps and I’m unsure what I missed? Is the text supposed to be a path, also? Any ideas? Sorry to bother you.

    • CE, You need one path and one text object and both have to be selected before you choose flow into frame from the menu. That should work.

  11. Kay, Thank you very much for your response! It was very helpful and something I should have realized on my own. I always like to try to do path commands with multiple objects, and, of course, it never works! I had copied and pasted my text repeatedly and grouped it, which, of course, were multiple objects. Thank you for helping me to see the error of my ways. It worked perfectly when I followed your instructions. Thank you for taking the time to address my concern. I appreciate it.

  13. Hey, I must be doing something wrong in Inkscape. I created a star>made object to path> and put the verse Twinkle Twinkle Little Star inside>made my adjustments to get it like I want the placement>Grouped the words with the star, then Exported a picture PNG, then saved as an Inkscape SVG. When I opened the SVG file in Sil Studio DE 2.718 all I have is the star not the words. If I open the SVG file in my browser IE 9 it is just the star no words. What am I missing???? Am new to Inkscape, but I like what I can do so far!!!

    • Hi Linda,
      I am not exactly sure why what you are doing is not working, but here is what I would try instead. When you have your words placed in your star, select the text and do object to path on that, too. Don’t group anything, and then save as Inkscape SVG.
