Note: I am no longer distributing templates so as not to infringe on Darice’s new Terms of Use.
Earlier this year, I reintroduced the “print and emboss” concept but seemed to stir up more bewilderment than anything else. So I’m uploading the first 2 parts of a 3 part tutorial series. (Don’t worry they are both short.)
Part 1 of the tutorial series shows how to use the template to create a customized printout to match the corresponding embossing folder.
Part 2 of the tutorial series shows how to line up the printout with the folder and emboss it.
Part 3 of the tutorial series shows how to create your own templates

This is brilliant, thank you.
I have loads of embossing folders, so eagerly awaiting video no 3 to see how to make templates for them:))))

I love love love you!!! I cannot wait until I sink my teeth into this! Thank you so much. I waited patiently for this!
I just put a trace (from a google image) onto my Darice embossing folder images and I am getting ready to size them and then give the print and emboss a try. I look forward to seeing how You, the expert! does it in your next video, especially for folders that don’t have nice crisp images to work with. Thanks, kay! I always get excited when I see your postings in my email!
OOPS. I forgot to say thank you for your templates. I appreciate the time and effort put into creating and then sharing these, Thank you!
These are awesome! I don’t have these folders but I’m going to get some and try this ASAP. Especially love the palm tree and the banner. I can hardly wait to see how you did this. Thank you so much for your generousity and inspiration.
This is fabulous. I can’t wait for your next video so I am able to use the embossing folder I own. Thank you so very much for your time and effort!

Thank you sooo much. I have many Darice folders and appreciate you sharing this with everyone. I enjoy your videos and have learned some very good tips from you. Your videos are easy to understand and well done.
Thanks so much. I always love your tutorials and getting emails from you because they are always so helpful!
Yeah, love these. Thank for sharing. Can’t wait for lesson 3. I have so many embossing folder I would like to try this with.
This is absolutely amazing…. Can’t wait for the next YouTube video.
Thank you Kay, you make it so easy, love it. I hope you will demo how to get these results, I have been collecting lots of embossing folders to try this. I wonder what clever tricks you might have when there is “no” decent image to be had online for the embossing folder? Also, your tricks for getting sizing of embossing folder around the image??
Wow, Kay!!! Thank you for these awesome templates! My mind is racing right now trying to figure out how you made them. I have so many embossing folders that I would love to use in this way. What a brilliant idea. I appreciate every single one of your videos. You are a wonderful teacher.
Thank you, Kay, for these. I look forward to being able to design my own from (I assume) your Part 3 tutorial. BTW, can you tell me who makes the “Clever Too” folder and possibly a link? I googled it but could not find a link. Thanks again for your “education” on Silhouette–you really help me learn.
Hi Auntie,
I assume you mean the Flowers Bouquet folder by Crafts Too. I got it at scrap-mart.com but it is available at a number of online craft stores. I do not know of any brick and mortar stores that carry Crafts Too folders. I ordered this folder specifically for this technique because it is so versatile.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. At least I have a lead. I’m so looking forward to doing this for the folders I already have (a whole box full).
Thanks so much for these! I, too, look forward to vid #3 as I have a bunch of embossing folders I can’t wait to give a new life to!
Oh, wow… This brings my (huge) collection of embossing folders into a whole new realm! I cannot thank you enough for the information and tutorials you share. You keep both the right and left sides of my brain so, so happy.
Looking forward to video #3!
Thank you so much! I didn’t have any of your embossing folders, but I do have some from Hot Off the Press that are printed in black on the front. I scanned then traced and printed – it worked! Can’t wait for your tutorial on how to do folders that are clear.
All I can saw is who knew? Obviously you did! Love this idea! I always say I’m not creative on my own but I copy well. Thanks so much for sharing this with us. I would have never considered anything like this on my own. Thank you so much! I love all your fantastic ideas and knowledge. I appreciate your sharing too. I don’t have a silhouette, but I’m giving some thought how to do this on my own with what I do have. Thanks again.
Hi Heidi and thanks for your comments. No Silhouette (or any electronic machine) is needed for these projects. I simply chose the free Silhouette software because it lends itself so nicely to this. Go to the link in this post to download your free copy.
Kay, I trust it’s been said elsewhere in other words, but I haven’t yet so here it goes: You should rename yourself from clever someday to bloody marvellous all the time! I have been using my computer for crafts for years and introduced quite a number of friends to doing that, mostly just dealing with very basic questions such as “no reolution, no detail” and such. I have also had a cutter for several years now, first a craft robo, then a silhouette. I’ve been following you for some time now, and there are several reasons for that:
a) You are extremely good at relaying topics which must be a bit difficult to understand when you don’t have a lot of background knowledge, and you’re so calm about everything. b) You are taking people very seriously when you are performing for video, but you have so much humour when it comes to the subtitles… “I’m not a pink stamper”… Love it! c) No matter what level of background knowledge one is on, there’s always something to learn from your tutorials/videos. I for one have been working with tracing in lots of graphics programs. It never even occurred to me why it was that tracing with Silhouette produced such different results from tracing with my other software! Special thanks for that, helped me greatly. d) I’m not one to fly from flower to flower and try out everything new. But with your balanced assessment of new offers from those companies out there, I find myself well-informed to take a buy/no-buy decision. I had come up with your “who needs pixscan” solution some time ago, but hated having to wipe down my scanner all the time because there always seems to be some residue on the glass from the sticky mat areas showing. So based on your insights, I bought a Pixscan mat from my trusted supplier two days ago, it was in the mail today with a second one as a bonus – not because he can’t get rid of them, but because he knows I’m a cutting mat junkie and I seem to be the only other person answering people’s questions on his (purely German) forum. I tried it out and even without calibration it worked perfectly! Of course I had all your tips on lighting and such in mind, so that probably helped.
Thanks for the great work you do out there, can’t wait to see what else you’ll inspire in me.
Best regards, Stef from Germany (aka minikraut)
Wow, thanks, Stef!! This one is going on my wall for when I start feeling like no one is listening out there. Also to show my children that I am “so calm about everything”. This will be big news to them. LOL
This is wonderful….thanks
Thank you so much, Kay. I used the Butterfly on Flower template to make a lovely card yesterday. I need to get busy and try to make templates for my other folders.
This is an awesome technique! Thanks so much!! I’m doing them in Paint Shop Pro just because I’m more familiar with the program, but did download the Silhouette software to follow along first to get the idea. ;0) It won’t be the same file format so can’t share my final templates (unless others use .psp files), but I will still share the .png files of the full-sized scanned folders and the .png of the traced and resized images that match up with them to save others the trouble. Thanks again! You’ve re-inspired me to do this card-making thing.
That is awesomeness to the enth degree!!!! I’m going to try to accomplish that with my DS/Explore & Inkscape. Thanks so much.
