Print and cut rebus valentine

February 9, 2015 by Kay

robotcard

The theme for this month’s Silhouette Challenge was right in my wheelhouse…print and cut. It was hard to pick a project because almost everything I do is print and cut, so I decided to go with a valentine card I was going to be making anyway. This card has all my favorite elements … nerdy wordplay, a robot, matching patterns from Lettering Delights and a wobbly character. The rectangular layers are print and cut, with the robot print and cut with an offset and rising off the page with an Action Wobble. Hard to beat for a quick, easy and fun Valentines card.
Tip: Blank out the center of obscured layers .

inktip

Here’s where to find the images I used in this card

  • Background patterns- Peepsicles Paper Pack
  • Robot and eyeball- Programmed for Love Graphics Set
  • Font- LD Big Kahuna font

Super cute Kay! I love the tip about putting a white box over the part that will be covered.

Appears you have wowed all of us with your tip on putting the white box over the area to be cut. I NEVER would have considered that to save ink. What a fabulous idea! I must be a bit dim because for the life of me I can’t figure out the card LOL, other than the “eye” plus ? and “u”….I sure it is one of those things where I will knock my head and go ooooooh in the middle of the night.

I admit it’s a little obscure. I+k+robot+U when spoken aloud = I care about you, with a robotic accent, perhaps.

This is a great card Kay – love the play on words, and as usual I always learn something new when I visit your blog – great tip about blanking the bits that don’t show 🙂

Very cute! I’m not familiar with an “Action Wobble”. Can you share with me what that is?

I meant to link to http://www.action-wobbles.com/. Sorry about that. They are just little spiral springs that let your elements lift off the page and rotate for a little extra pizazz. Some people make their own, too.

The white box not only saves ink but provides a precise way to line up the panel that’s adhered on top of it! Great idea.

good idea to cover pattern fill with white rectangle. love it! i might make that rectangle a bit smaller than what you’ll be covering it up with so as to look like its all patterned. sorta like the bleed line in reverse!

You should be able to see from the picture that that is exactly what I did.

This has nothing to do with this post. I am unsure how to contact you, so I hope you don’t mind that I’m doing it in the comments. Maybe you’ll see this and respond.

I just happened upon your website and have a few questions about transferring Silhouette files from a previous computer to a new computer. I have been successful with transferring Silhouette store purchases and files that I have bought elsewhere but haven’t found a way to transfer files that I designed (like through Kerri Bradford’s online classes) to the new computer. They don’t show up in my finder window. I am a Mac user. I thought I would ask you to see if you have any suggestions. Thanks!

      Sharee,
If you have V3, then try File>Library>Export Library and save it to a thumb drive or cloud storage then on the new computer File>Library>Import Library on the new machine. If you do not have V3 or if this fails, this document will explain how to copy the files manually. https://app.box.com/s/dk5oe3layznd0xbjwnau

        Thanks for the information.

All of these items that I created are in the original Silhouette Studio. (not version 3) I read the directions for copying files manually however I think my situation is a little unique from those instructions. I have added some files to the my new computer (v.3) that are not on my old computer (not v.3). So if I copy the files on my old computer and paste it to my new computer, what will it do? Will it paste them over the files that are on my new computer and erase the newer files? Will it merge both the old and newer files together? (old computer files and the new files I have added on my new computer)

Am I making any sense? 🙂 Thanks, Sharee

It will copy over them. There is no merge.
