If you’ve been waiting for the lovely Samantha font by Laura Worthington to go on sale, now’s your chance.

Each of them come with the full set of alternate characters (the swirls), catchwords and ornaments. If you get the $37 package you also get the bold versions of each. These fonts are also licensed for use on items diecutters typically sell (words and phrases, not individual characters). For licensing details please see Laura’s FAQ’s.

Thank you, Kay! I believe I downloaded this info before. Just a quick question, are her fonts TTF? I do machine embroidery mainly, with a Cameo and Scan N Cut waiting in the wings. Her fonts are lovely as are the ones you use in the side panel on your website. I have always wondered if those are TTF or acquired from one of the many font sites.
Martie
Kay says
Good question, Martie Yes when you order Laura’s fonts you will receive both the OTF and TTF versions. Most of the fonts I use on this site are free TTFs which some purchased fonts sprinkled in.
Bobbi Kaye Fontenot says
Thanks a bunch Kay! I purchased the fonts yesterday on sale and just love swirly designs but was having trouble understanding the written instructions (visual learner here). The video was so helpful, now I feel ready to tackle a project!
nancy wolff says
Thanks Kaye. I just bought Gioviale. I followed your instruction and everything went well. I can see the character map and selected letters and brought them in silhouette without a problem. But as I tried to bring in different letters I found that some letters did not match the ones in the character map. Do you have Gioviale? If you do could you try bringing in a fancy Y without diuresis marks. I tried every Y and they all had marks even though when I click on some to select them they don’t have marks. Also when I choose the first Fancy D it comes in as an A even though when I click on it, it’s a D. Am I doing something wrong.
Kay says
Nancy, I have heard that there is a bug in Silh Studio that sometimes causes an adjacent character to be selected but I have not heard of it being this far off. You might try Nexus Font and see if that Character Map works any better for you.
Cindy Stanley says
I realize the post above was almost a year ago, but I am having the exact same issue with the Gioviale font when I choose Bold. I was using Inkscape and my Win7 Character Map (copy from there and pasted into Inkscape). All the letters I tried while choosing Bold first, brought them into Inkscape with diuresis marks or were simply not the style of letters I chose in my Character Map. I will try doing this in Nexus Font as suggested. Nancy Wolff … did you ever get this font to work right for you? Oh, I need the Gioviale Bold to work for me. Fingers crossed.

Hi Kay~ I feel embarrassed to ask what seem, even to me, a very elementary question, but here goes: how do I get my Silhouette designs to save to my Silhouette library? After I hit the save option, my Mac only offers me my desktop or some other file in “Documents.” Why am I not offered to save it to “My Designs” in the Silhouette software? If this is possible, will you kindly tell me how to do this? Thank you ever so much!
Kay says
Don’t be embarrassed, it is confusing…In V2, its File>Save to Library. In V3 its File>Save As>Save to Library.
Rosie says
Thank you for the tutorial. It was very helpful and easy to follow along.
I appreciate your efforts!!
Jo says
Again, Kay, you have helped me get so much more out of my Cameo! Q. Can you tell me why Open Type Font is better than a True Type Font for diecutting?
Kay says
Thanks and Good question, Jo … Either works in diecutting software, but Open Type is a more modern format that allows more features (more of an advantage outside of diecutting software, really). So all things being equal, pick the OTF, but don’t snub the TTFs as they are great for diecutting, too.

Thank you so very much for making this so simple – it is people like you and Debbie H that make this world a better place…Thank you again!

Does this work with windows 8? I tried to do the practice of the justice font and it did not work?
Kay says
Yes. Be sure you have the right font. http://www.dafont.com/gist-upright.font

Hi ,
I love your posts. You have taught me so much, I wouldn’t have been able to use my silhouette if it were not for your easy to follow instructions. Thank you
Now I have another problem. I bought the Laura Worthington font, Samantha, but it is not coming into charter map when I follow your instructions. I must not have saved the file correctly. I’ve looked at Laura’s instructions as well, and it does not help me to discover what I need to do. Can you help?
Thanks
Jeri Hemmer
Kay says
Jeri,
The download file needs to be unzipped and the OTF files need to be installed on your computer. Instructions for that will vary based on your operating system but should be available via your computers help system or by googling “how to install a font in Windows 7” for example.
Cat 584 says
Hi, I absolutely love this font. I am new to downloading fonts onto the diecutting machines and have a simple, basic question. I am in the process of getting either a silhouette Cameo or Cricut explore. I am checking both out now. My question is would this font work on both machines? Second, since I will likely not have my machine before the sale goes off, should I go on and purchase it and wait to unzip when I have my machine or is there an alternative process?. I know the licensing agreement only lets you download it to one computer and I would assume that means you can’t download to your desktop and then your diecut machine. Any assistance on this would be appreciated because I would like to take advantage of this font sale. Thanks
Cat 584 says
Hi Kay,
You can disregard my above post. I went searching and found that fonts are downloaded to a computer and then can be used with either Silhouette Cameo or Cricut Explore. In fact, I found your video on how to use the fancy fonts with Cricut. I must say you provide wonderful instructions and I am going to purchase some fancy fonts to play with and have them ready for when I get my machine. Thanks so much for the wonderful videos and assistance you provide to we crafters.
Sandra bennett says
I love the help! This tutorial is wonderful. I just can’t get the private use characters to show. It shows all the rest in that list. But not the private. I have even reinstalled and restarted my computer. Any idea what I’m not doing right. Thanks so much!
Kay says
Did you install the OTF version of the font? If so you may need to email Laura Worthington with your receipt and get the updated version of the font.
Michelle says
Kay.. My Samantha was working fine now the m with its swirls won’t work. Is there something I’m doing wrong. I am using windows Character Map and doing the select and paste into design space. All the other letters show up but the m. I appreciate any help.. Or the direction as to where I can get some.. thanks so much!
Kay says
I haven’t heard of this particular problem Michelle. You might want to try the character map in Nexus Font (its free) and see if you can locate the missing M’s.
Michelle says
Kay how do I get them from Nexus to Design Space?
Kay says
From the character map in Nexus Font, click to select and put them in the selection box, then click the copy button, then paste into Silh Studio. It works exactly the same as the Windows Character Map
Michelle says
Thanks so much for the quick response!

Hi Kay, I am very interested in Samantha font, have you been able to use it without any issues in the new Yosemite update? I don’t want to purchase if there is going to be a problem using it. I read that the italic font isn’t working for Mac users.
Very informative and helpful videos.
Kay says
I am having trouble with the Italic in Cricut Design Space only and with Italic Bold in Silhouette Studio. It works fine otherwise. I have not heard of any issues with Yosemite.
Marsha says
Is this beautiful font available for machine embroidery?
Michele Weller says
I received a MacBook Air for Christmas & have the Cricut Explore. Do you have a video of how to use the fancy font with a MAC? Thank you!
Kay says
No, I don’t because I don’t have an up to date Mac to make videos on. However, you can watch the Silhouette Mac video (2nd on this page) for how to copy and then the Windows Design Space video (3rd on this page) for how to paste and have all the info you need.
Jackie Russett says
Hi I followed your video on how to have the special characters appear in the character map, but when ever I hit private use all the squares are blank. I am using a laptop with windows 8 and have the full family Samantha font.
Any help you can give would be very much appreciated. Thankyou
Jackie
Kay says
Sounds like you have an earlier version of Samantha that is not specially coded. Email Laura Worthington with your receipt and she will send you the update. Be sure to uninstall the ones you have loaded now.
Jackie Russett says
thank you 🙂
Tina Wilkerson says
Thank you so much! I purchased the Samantha font, and I couldn’t figure out how to find the fancy stuff.
Diane says
I am wanting to get the Samantha Font, however I’m confused somewht. What is the difference in the Complete Script Family Desktop and the Family Web ? They are both $37. The Upright and Italiac are $17. Can you explain so I can catch the sale at MightyDeals. Thanks. Diane
Kay says
Yes, Diane, $17 Upright includes Upright Regular version of font plus matching alternate characters (with swirls), ornaments and catchwords
$17 Italic included Italic Regular version of font plus matching alternate characters (with swirls), ornaments and catchwords
$37 package includes Upright Regular, Upright Bold, Italic Regular and Italic Bold plus matching alternate characters (with swirls), ornaments and catchwords for each of those four versions
michelle says
Hi, I feel a bit stupid in asking this question but what is the difference between desk top and web. When I went to purchase Samantha font it gives option to buy complete packages. When I researched it says web fonts have svg as well. if I want to use it for both printing and cutting would I have to buy the 55 dollar package. Please help really confused as to which I should get.
thank you
mich
Kay says
Hi Michelle, as stated above, for crafting you want the desktop version. For more information and FAQs see this more current post https://cleversomeday.wordpress.com/2015/01/13/more-on-samantha/

thank you

Kay, I can’t thank you enough. I’ve been a fan of yours (and of your videos) for some time but hadn’t seen this video until just now. I was looking at gorgeous fonts like Samantha Script, even just for printing, let alone cutting. But I knew nothing about accessing the additional swirls, etc., and couldn’t fathom where or how I could find out. Descriptions accompanying the fonts were like Greek to me. Thanks to your clear, logical teaching, I *get it* now! I have learned not just crafting skills, but many helpful computer skills because you took the time to make videos and share your expertise. Kudos.
Karen says
I purchased the $37. Set of the Samantha Font but don’t know where it went on the computer or how to download it. Can someone help me. Karen
Kay says
If you downloaded it, it is most likely in your Downloads folder. If its not there, search your computer for “samantha”. If its not there then you need to download it. There was probably a link in the receipt that was emailed to you or at your mighty deals account page. Then you will need to unzip it and install it on your computer. Check your computer’s help for instructions on how to do that. Then see this post for videos on how to use the font in Design Space https://cleversomeday.wordpress.com/2015/01/13/more-on-samantha/
Karen says
I have a Cricut Explore
Karen says
I purchased mighty deals Samantha $37 package and have a new Mac Pro. I see it in the Font Book but not the special characters. I’m so disappointed and feel I’ve wasted my money because I still can’t figure this out. Also, when I choose abc I only get the letter a. I’m not sure where to go for help. I have a Cricut Explore and the only option I have that works is Samantha upright regular. Not italic 🙁
Kay says
In Font Book, as shown in the video, you need to select a specific version of Samantha, and then select the Repertoire view before you will see the special characters. I have more information on this newer post, including an answer to your question about the italic. https://cleversomeday.wordpress.com/2015/01/13/more-on-samantha/
