Free “Chevronizer” template for Silhouette Studio

June 29, 2015 by Kay

Free and fully adjustable
How would you like to fill a letter or state shape with a chevron pattern quickly and easily, and be able to adjust the size and position of the chevron and the thickness of the outline? Well, I’ve created a “smart template” for Silhouette Studio that will let you do just that! Download my new free “Chevronizer” file here and watch the video below to learn how to use it to easily add a fully adjustable chevron design to create cut files.

For those of you who like written instructions, you will find them in the margin of the file as shown in the screen shot below.

Thank you for sharing your time and talents! Is there a way to get this in SVG format? I use the Cricut Explore. Studio formatting will not work. Thank you again

This process relies on the features of Silh Studio so having an SVG wouldn’t do any good (it wouldn’t be editable or adjustable). However, you can download Silh Studio (it’s free), use the file, screen capture and bring into Cricut Design Space using Basic Import.

I love the state font you provided a link to, and downloaded. However, how do I choose my state? I, too, am so excited about the possibilities for designing cute stuff with this new tool! Thank you so much.

Click on the glyphs tab on the stateface download page and there you’ll be able to find the letter you need to type to produce your state.

Out of curiosity, is it possible to change the color of the chevron? When I try it goes to a solid color.

      Yes, after the trace.

I tried downloading on my iPad. Is this something I need to download on my computer? I am soooooo new to this. I have a silhouette cameo. Any suggestions would be great!!

    • Kay says

      August 18, 2015 at 8:52 am

Even if you could download this on your iPad, you would need to run it on your computer, so I suggest you download it to your computer, then open Silhouette Studio, then navigate to your downloads folder and open it from there.

Thank you so much. I need to figure out how to do this for the 12 x 12 square. All chevron print is too stretched out so I’d love to be able to adjust it. Could you tell me how I might do that? Also there is a font that is stacked and starspromo on your font list…could you tell me what that font is? 🙂

    • Kay says

      September 28, 2015 at 10:07 am

Just find a font with a square in it, like my Border Bits font (type the number 4) or the period on many fonts is square, then use this file, or download my chevron overlay seamless pattern here and follow the instructions to make a chevron square with it https://cleversomeday.wordpress.com/2013/07/19/overlays/
Sorry I am not following you on the fonts question. Which font list?

      • Wendy says

        October 6, 2015 at 5:54 pm

in your video I was looking at your font list that you were selecting your fonts from and I was wondering which font was between stacked and starspromo…I couldn’t make out the font name

How do I get the chevron pattern? Also, I downloaded the distress kit… Now how do I get it in silhouette? Thanks in advance for your help!!Oh and btw, Im from SC too!!!

    • Kay says

      March 16, 2016 at 6:52 pm

Hi Shannon from SC! The chevron pattern is built in to the free .studio template available for download above. Download the file, open it in Silhouette Studio and follow the instructions in the margin and/or watch the video to see how it works. Likewise, the distress kit is a .studio file and there is an instructional video on that page as well.

        March 18, 2016 at 3:12 pm

I got the distressed kit!! Tks. But j can’t figure out how to get the chevron pattern. Ugh!! Tks for your help!!

If you already followed the steps in my last response, please tell me at what point you are running into a problem and what the symptoms are.

I get the download but I cant figure out how to save the chevron design. I get the pic with the instructions on the side but I can’t change letters or anything.

          • Kay says

            March 22, 2016 at 9:00 pm

Shannon, sounds like you might have downloaded the screen shot and not the .studio file. Be sure you have the .studio file, open it in Silhouette Studio (do not put it in your library first) and follow the instructions in the margin or on the video.

Can this method only be used with Fonts?

    • Kay says

      October 12, 2016 at 1:31 pm

This automatic template only works with fonts, but the method (fill object with chevron pattern, adjust pattern, adjust line thickness and trace) works with any shape.

Thanks Kay! This is awesome and so kind of you to share. I downloaded the distress kit about a month ago and have used it a couple times. It makes distressing fonts so much better than using the distress fonts. I’m sure this Chevronizer will be as great a hit with me as the distress kit was! Thanks again…

I love this but I’m having issues with tracing to make a cut file. When I uncheck the high pass filter it makes it solid, I can not get it to find the chevron pattern. Any suggestions?

    • Kay says

      August 29, 2017 at 8:55 pm

hmmm. I can’t see to recreate this. Restart Silh Studio and try again, and if you still have the problem please contact me via the contact form on this blog so I can follow up.

    • Kay says

      November 10, 2017 at 10:25 pm

Yes it works with all versions of Silhouette Studio. Be sure to unzip it, and use File>Open. Don’t try to double click it or put it in the library.
